Hackensack's RSC Architects has been authorized by the council to come up with a basic design for the North Washington Ave. facility this week detailing a complete renovation, the report says.
RSC Architects has worked several municipal projects in the area including Ridgewood's Village Hall, Cliffside Park's DPW Annex, Demarest DPW and most notably Two Bergen County Plaza -- and many more.
The three-story building's facade will remain the same but interior will be gutted and reconstructed, Mayor Norman Schmelz said in the NorthJersey.com article.
The project -- that will allegedly be saving the borough $5 million -- will be funded by a $12 million bond with $3 million from surplus funds, the mayor said, leaving the borough more than $27 million in debt.
RSC Architects said the building will need window replacements, structural repairs, parking lot repairs, front canopy repairs, interior space reconfiguration, new stair towers, mechanical/electrical/plumbing upgrades and more.
Borough officials hope the project will be complete by 2020.
